By Julie Terry, Sr. Marketing Manager, K4Connect – This summer we were excited to welcome a team of accomplished interns to work alongside us at the K4Connect offices in Raleigh. With positions available across all our teams, an internship with the company is a great experience to not only hone skills in a specific area, but to learn about the inner workings of high-growth, venture backed startup. As part of National Intern Day (yes – it’s a real thing!), I interviewed two of our summer interns about their experience before they head out and head back to their school. Or, in the case of Meghan as you’ll read below, hopefully pursue a full-time career here! Keep reading to hear from two of our interns about how the experience has helped shape them, and what they enjoyed most about their time here.

Ryan Cretens, Marketing Intern

What has been your favorite part about interning at K4Connect?
My favorite part about being an intern at K4Connect was being immersed into a team culture that strives to succeed and help others, yet do so in a fun, charismatic way. The culture that has been developed at K4 is awesome. From day one, my supervisors and co-workers were all very friendly and helpful in answering all of my questions to help me smoothly transition into my tasks. I loved the laid back professional environment and it was motivating to see that everyone here always has that desire to make an impact through their outreach efforts.

What is your biggest takeaway after interning here this summer?
My biggest takeaway this summer was definitely gaining insight into how a business operates. More specifically, I grasped a better idea of professional workplace communication through multiple platforms, whether it be digitally or in person, and how timelines or processes have many components or moving parts. This will help me prepare and adapt to diverse workplaces in the future.

How do you think interning at K4Connect will impact your future studies/job hunting?
By being an intern at K4Connect, I have experienced a professional working environment that has given me insight into life after college. The work I have completed, the relationships I have constructed, and the knowledge that has been developed will strategically be tied into my studies and hopefully an eventual master’s degree. Additionally, my accomplishments here have immensely strengthened my portfolio for future job hunting!

What are your plans after your internship?
My plan after this summer is to finish my last semester of college in addition to my final redshirt season as the starting goalkeeper for the UNCW men’s soccer team. After the completion of the semester, I hope to play soccer professionally or start working at a company right away pursuing a career to help others!

Meghan Combs, Development and QA Intern

What has been your favorite part about interning at K4Connect?
The people, followed closely by the mission. Last year I changed careers from art history/museums/galleries to development, and during that decision process I promised myself I would find a company where I was excited to come to work everyday AND had a mission to make people’s lives’ better. I’ve found both at K4Connect!
What is your biggest takeaway after interning here this summer?
Funnily enough, I came on as a development intern and learned that I loved (and am better at) QA testing, so much so that I plan on pursuing it as a career.
How do you think interning at K4Connect will impact your future studies/job hunting?
Actually, I am hoping to land a permanent position at K4Connect. As I said above, it is exactly the company I want to work for. I strive everyday to make myself valuable so when a position opens up I can apply with confidence.
What are your plans after your internship?
My plans are to pursue a permanent position with K4Connect. Wish me luck!
